Music in worship has been a prominent feature of St Andrew’s since the beginning. There have been some notable musicians in the choir and congregation, including the distinguished Scottish tenor Kenneth McKellar and the composer John Rutter. (Sir) John Tavener attended in his early years and the choir were involved in workshop performances of some of his earliest works.
In 1954, when the choir was 24 strong, Christine Waple (ARCM) became organist and choir director. For over 60 years until shortly before her sad passing in 2016 Christine’s music made a glorious and inspiring contribution to the spiritual life of the church.
The choir, though now smaller, provides a lively and joyful part of our worship, and our new organist and music director Jake Convery is helping to continue the tradition.
